He has over 40 years’ experience in Sport Administration and Coaching. He has received Awards of Recognition from T&T, Canada, and the U.S. for his many contributions to sports, culture, and youth development. Under his direction many student-athletes have gone on to play at the highest levels around the world and have also become role-models off the field in their roles as husbands, fathers, and community members. Among his many coaching assignments, he has been in charge of Youth and Senior National Teams of which his last was as Technical Director/Head Men’s Soccer Coach at the Trinidad & Tobago Football Federation. He is a proud husband of 35 years, a devout father of four and grandfather of five. He firmly believes in spending time with the elderly for counsel whom he calls, “the fountain of wisdom”. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, with a degree in Economics; a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK), and he also holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Wales/ Manchester Business School. He has over 25 years experience in finance and banking. He was Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Butterfield, Barbados. He has served as president of both the Barbados Bankers Association and the Barbados Institute of Banking and Finance. With a special love of sport, our mentor was a Deputy Chairman of the Barbados National Sports Council. He has published and presented several papers on banking and finance, including a presentation on "Managing Banking Crisis" to the World Congress of Accounts held in Paris in October 1997. He has been involved not only in the planning and start-up of new financial institutions but has also been involved in several turnaround situations in the finance industry. In December of 2007, he was appointed Minister in the Ministry of Finance and in March 2009 he was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry in addition to his previous portfolio. While most individuals would have been satisfied with a career similar to what he built in media he was not and went on to found / co-found and lead other organizations. A few of his past roles include; Chairman – British West Indian Airways (BWIA) now called Caribbean Airlines; Chairman – Caribbean Communications Network; Chairman – Neal and Massy Holdings; Chairman – First Citizens Bank; Chairman – Economic Development Board; President – West Indies Cricket Board; Founding Chairman of MIPED, a BP funded Development programme for Mayaro; Founder of Great Race to Tobago; Chairman of the Integrity Commission; The Honorable Minister of Industry Enterprise and Tourism (1986 – 1990). He was inducted in the Hall of Fame of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Caribbean Broadcasting Union. Additionally, in 2007 he was awarded the Chaconia National Award (Gold). There is no one more deserving of praise in the story of the development of the Caribbean media in the last 60 years.     CMP015 - A life after CRIME with Mtima Solwazi - Poet and Founder of Cascadoo Caribbean New Voices International

    Our special guest and Caribbean Mentor is a living example of displaying resilience in the quest for achieving success by utilizing the spoken word as a tool for cognitive-behavioural therapy, social activism, civic engagement, arts education, and literacy development. Our mentor left secondary school in 1988 with four CXC subjects at the Basic level and was deemed an at-risk deviant youth who was engaged in the street-level narcotics trade and gang affiliated activities from the age of thirteen. But this is not where his journey ends. At present, he is a post-graduate Sociology student of the University of the West Indies and holder of a Bachelor of Sciences with Honors in Psychology with Minors in Sociology and Criminology. He has been actively involved in youth and community development for the past two decades working with disenfranchised youth in high-risk environments and criminogenic communities across Trinidad. A past trainee himself, he dedicated his services to Servol for the past 14 years. Currently he is employed as a Community Action Officer with the Citizen Security Programme (CSP) a division of the Ministry of National Security. A self-published poet, our mentor continues to use the spoken word poetry as a catalyst for social change through is annual spoken word festival – Cascadoo Caribbean New Voices International Festival of Spoken Word. He is the recipient of several community awards for his selfless dedication and continued commitment towards youth and community development.
